Worlds Collide - Sparrow/Child Haven

Sunday afternoons can be rough. The Child Haven kids are restless and hardly nap at all when we get back from church, making the afternoon very long with several grumpy attitudes. Meanwhile the kids at Sparrow are bored out of their minds, trapped at Sparrow all weekend with no place to go and no activities to do (for some reason homework never seems to qualify as a desired distraction).

So we've started something new. The two now come together in a symbiotic relationship of Sunday afternoon entertainment. I bring a varying set of 4 Sparrow teenagers over to Child Haven on Sundays to play with the younger kids. The teens love getting out of Sparrow and seeing what life is like in a quieter home environment, while the kids at Child Haven get new friends (ie. cool older kids) to play with and speak Zulu with.

Here is my favorite snapshot from the past week. I brought Michael over with a few other teenagers so that he could finish editing one of his songs on my computer. Four year-old L. from Child Haven was trying to figure out what this big kid in skinny jeans was doing...
