Camp Out! - Child Haven

This weekend we had our first ever CHILD HAVEN CAMP-OUT! Members from my small group at church hosted an outdoor sleepover in their backyard for ten of our kids. The night included a braai (a South African barbeque), a few rounds of kick-the-can, singing songs on the guitar, roasting marshmallows on sticks, and a bunch of very excited kids who got to stay up until 9:30pm!

Highlights:

Our 4 young boys (who are often male-role-model-deprived) got the chance to hammer tents into the ground and to cook meat on the grill all by themselves. They felt SO cool working with the grown-up guys.

Auntie Kate and I were woken up by the three little girls in our tent at 5:45 am: "Auntie, is it time to wake up yet?" (Aunties: "NO!")

After we rolled out of bed, I made a comment that the little girls all looked beautiful so early in the morning. Four year old G. answered: "That's cuz A. didn't wee her bed, Auntie." Too true - and it's hard to convey how very grateful we were that all three of their little sleeping bags were dry in the morning...
