Those Left Behind - Baby Haven

The hardest part of watching Baby E. go was seeing little O. stay behind.  He lay on the carpet and watched curiously as E.'s parents played happily with her before taking her home.

O. is our precious 8 month old HIV-positive boy.  His mom was a 21 year-0ld girl who had been raped.  She had the baby, signed the adoption papers, and left him at the hospital.

Families come and go at Baby Haven, looking for the perfect baby to adopt; and one by one they have all passed by the quiet and smiling O.

HIV is a powerful acronym.  With it comes fear, stigma, and evasion.  It has been so discouraging to wonder: if no family that comes to the sheltered environment of Baby Haven wants to adopt this beautiful and healthy baby boy, who will ever come to a place like Sparrow Village and take in a grown HIV+ child covered in dirt?

Sometimes it's hard to live by faith -- not despair -- for these kids.  But today I heard the Baby Haven founder say that we really need to start believing God for a family for O.  Amen to that.  Lord, may they please come soon!
